Eligibility and Criteria
This award celebrates a visionary leader—whether an individual or an institution—who is driving a national culture of health ownership and responsibility. The Self-Care Champion has demonstrated a consistent commitment to empowering people to take charge of their own health, whether through advocacy, education, mentorship, or innovative approaches that simplify health access. Their work reduces the burden on formal health facilities by equipping individuals and communities with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to manage their own health.
Who is eligible:
- Individuals: Public health advocates, policy makers, community health leaders, social entrepreneurs, health educators, researchers or innovators who have advanced the self-care movement.
- Organizations or institutions: NGOs, businesses, academic institutions, community-based organizations, or initiatives that have advanced impactful self-care campaigns or programs.
What nominators should consider:
- The nominee’s track record in creating lasting behavior change around self-care.
- Evidence of measurable impact, such as improved community health indicators, reduced strain on health facilities, or adoption of healthier lifestyles.
- Innovative strategies used to reach hard-to-access populations, including youth, rural communities, or marginalized groups.
- The nominee’s ability to inspire and mobilize communities at scale.
